Lena Botes and her family moved to the Klein Karoo in 2017 from Cape Town, wanting to do something different...
Having been raised on a farm in Zimbabwe, moving to the Karoo was vastly different - what to do? They decided to farm TRULY free range eggs. (or you can say .....TRULY free ranging chickens BUT not free ranging eggs lol)
Their hens have their place of safety; they coop at night, but during the day have access to huge fields of Karoo bush where they can forage to their hearts content, spread their wings, fly and have dust baths. They are in an environment which they are born to be in - not stuck in a cement floor building with minimum daylight.
They say their hens are their children and get treated as such, with many treats of butternut, spinach and watermelon. Lena also grows barley for them and they in turn produce wonderful eggs!
